WYMS is our annual free to enter music competition for young soloist who live or attend school within the Walsall area. The competition is split into two categories:
Walsall Up and Coming award (Primary school age, performing a piece up to and including grade 3 standard)
Walsall Young Music Star award (Secondary school and any primary school student performing a piece at grade 4 standard or higher)
Applicants enter the heats with a piece of music in any style or genre, but limited to a maximum length of 3 minutes 30 seconds. These will be judged by two adjudicators who give feedback and select the finalists. The Heats are held live at Walsall Arena and Arts Centre from 4:30pm onwards on Wednesday 4th March. If any candidate cannot make the live dates, online entries will still be accepted (please contact Matt at matt.firkins@walsall.gov.uk once you've submitted your entry). If successful, all entrants must be available in person for the Live Final on Thursday 26th March 2026 at 7:00pm.
The Live Final will be at 7:00pm on Thursday 26th March 2026 at Walsall Arena and Arts Centre.
